“I Will Stand”

I took these pictures in September of 2016. They are of the cenotaph in Preston, Cambridge Ontario. I was there today for the November 11th Remembrance Day Service for Veterans. These images I took inspired my poem “I Will Stand: A Remembrance Day Poem”

I will stand
Always here
For all time.

Arms spread out
Firmly planted
Eyes fixed.

I will stand
Against evil.
I will stand.

I will fight
For the freedom
Of our way.

Come dark coldness
Torrential rain
The beating Sun
Or slow decay
I will never leave.

I will stand watch
I will be vigilant
I will protect.

My stone body
Will break whatever comes
I WILL STAND!
